i agree with you one hundred percent when you stated that the article was slanted. the author is a feminest for christ sakes! the thing that gets me fired up is how so many Americans want to bring to the public's attention about what's going on in these factories but yet and still, they continue to buy the products produced in the factories and don't really have much of a choice. My question is "why would these women work in these conditions if they weren't satisfied with their surroundings?"

yeah, a president needs to be educated first. That's what I believe in. What is the use of illiterate president or partially educated one? If he himself has partial knowledge then how will he educate the entire country and adminstrate it?

Great call for change Caitlyn - think about what good it would do to know more about the countries around us - less stereotyping, less cultural friction, probaably less gang violence, etc.

I agree with you when you mention that the cultural diversities in America has made America what she is today.I wonder if there would be Taco Bell if it weren't for the Mexican influence on the people here. Because of the mixed culture you have here, America seemed to have everything American and then some. So is no surprise if America somewhat feels like she is above all other countries. But it is hard to ignore the fact that America is very much dependant to many other countries in terms of imports and manufacturing goods.I think the point that the author of this article is trying to make is that America is tuning out the world in terms of social and political knowledge. I think if students here are taught more on international studies and also if the media is more open to international stories other than the middle eastern war, it would be a great start.

I think that you have a very unique and eye opening opinion on this topic. Although I do not feel that our sense of nationalism is a bad thing in terms of our view of other countries. I know that being involved in world politics and actions is a very vital part to our nations survival, but why can't we have a higher opinion of ourselves when we make these observations. We do not have the number one economy and our military is being ever challenged by China so we are not number one. I feel that it is not an arrogance that we feel rather a strong sense of pride and confidence. I was forced to take a foreign language since 5th grade so maybe I am an exclusion to these statistics but I feel that Americans have a right to act and feel the way they do just like very country has the right to have that same view of themselves except like some b.s country like Latvia.

Caitlyn, overall a good start and some interesting points. Some recommendations as you go forward:

It seems as if you are beginning to stretch a bit for information as you get to the end of the piece. I wonder if you could talk to your friends or others in the class to get some ideas for how globalization appears around us. Or, you may have to come up with an idea to take it a step further - like how is globalization going to affect our lives in 10 years? 50? How has it changed over the last 10 years? Since 9-11? What do you think the US should do to adjust? your community? The University? You? What advantages does it have? Disadvantages? How can we take advantage of it… Etc.

Also, look to the outline that we talked about in class today.

If you have any questions as you expand, let me know! Thanks!
